GONG Guard: guard tour and security patrol management

GONG Guard is a patrol, QR checkpoint scanning, shift and incident management system for on-site security teams. Guards scan the paper-printed QR label at each checkpoint of a patrol round with an Android phone; the location at the moment of the scan is stored together with its accuracy radius. Supervisors follow the team and incidents from a web panel and the GONG Komuta app, and resolve pending approvals in the web panel. GONG Guard is developed by GONG Global (Ankara, Türkiye). The product interface is in Turkish only.

This kind of system is also called a guard tour system, a security patrol app or a checkpoint scanning system.

Who it is for

GONG Guard is built for security teams that run shifts and patrols on a site: security service companies and organisations that manage their own security staff. There are three roles:

GONG Komuta is the supervisor and manager app of GONG Guard, not a separate product. Both apps can be installed on the same phone. The apps can be installed on Android 8.0 or later. There is no iPhone app.

No extra hardware

In GONG Guard a patrol checkpoint is a QR label printed on paper. Labels are printed from the web panel on A4 sheets (4, 8 or 12 per page) and posted at the checkpoint; scanning is done with the organisation's Android phone. No handheld terminal, card reader or beacon is bought or installed, and no NFC tag is needed. A worn or torn label is reprinted from the panel.

A paper label can be copied, so a scan is not judged on its own: the location and accuracy at the moment of the scan are compared with the checkpoint's location, which a supervisor pins on site. A scan made clearly outside the checkpoint or with a mock location does not count as a patrol step and is reported to the supervisor. If the phone reports a mock location, the record is flagged.

How it works

  1. Print and post the QR labels. The manager names the project, site and checkpoints in the web panel; the manager or a supervisor prints the labels.
  2. Pin each checkpoint's location. After the label is posted, a supervisor stands at the checkpoint and pins its location from the supervisor screen of the GONG Guard app (or places it on the map in the panel as a fallback). Scans are compared with this pinned location and never move it. A checkpoint without a pinned location is shown as a warning in the panel.
  3. The guard clocks in and scans. The phone is paired to the organisation once with a short-lived pairing code; the guard selects a profile and enters a PIN. Clock-in and clock-out are recorded with location; a clock-in from outside the site goes to the supervisor for approval. On the round the guard scans each checkpoint. If a label cannot be scanned, the guard reports the problem with a photo or video and moves to the next checkpoint.
  4. The supervisor follows. Patrol status, incidents and emergency calls appear in GONG Komuta and the web panel. Alerts are raised for a round that did not start on time, a missed checkpoint, an incomplete round, a checkpoint that could not be scanned and a guard on shift leaving the site without permission. Pending approvals, such as a clock-in from outside the site, are resolved in the web panel.
  5. Reports. The report builder, available to managers, produces day, week or month reports as PDF, Excel or Word files. Client reports are per project and contain only that project's data. Supervisors see a ready-made report summary for their own scope.

What GONG Guard does not do

Frequently asked questions

What is GONG Guard?

GONG Guard is a guard tour and security patrol management system by GONG Global (Ankara, Türkiye). Guards scan paper QR labels at checkpoints with an Android phone; supervisors follow patrols and incidents from the GONG Komuta app and a web panel, and resolve approvals in the web panel.

Does it need extra hardware?

No. Checkpoints are QR labels printed on paper and scanning is done with an Android phone. No handheld terminal, card reader, beacon or NFC tag is needed.

Which phones can it be installed on?

The apps can be installed on Android 8.0 or later. There is no iPhone app.

Where can the apps be downloaded?

The apps are not listed in mobile app marketplaces. They are downloaded directly from guard.gongglobal.net/indir, where each package's version, size and SHA-256 checksum are listed. No sign-in is needed to download.

What happens if a guard photographs a QR label and scans it somewhere else?

The location at the moment of the scan is stored with its accuracy radius and compared with the checkpoint's pinned location. A scan made clearly outside the checkpoint or with a mock location does not count as a patrol step and is reported to the supervisor. During an open patrol round, out-of-place scans are reported to the supervisor when the round ends, with their count; mock-location scans and out-of-place scans outside a round are reported immediately. Scans whose location accuracy is not good enough to decide go to the supervisor for review. Checkpoints without a pinned location are shown as a warning in the panel, so each checkpoint's location should be pinned on site after the label is posted.

What happens if the internet connection drops?

During a short internet outage, QR scans are queued on the phone and sent when the connection returns. If queued scans arrive late, the supervisor may see a "missed checkpoint" alert for a checkpoint that was in fact scanned. Clocking in and out and starting a patrol round need an internet connection. While the phone cannot send its location, site boundary alerts are not raised.

What is the difference between GONG Guard and GONG Komuta?

GONG Guard is the guard's app: shift, patrol, QR scanning, incidents and emergency calls; it also has a separate supervisor screen. GONG Komuta is the supervisor and manager app of the same system: dashboard, notifications, emergency calls, incidents, scan review, photo requests and checklists. Reports, approvals and settings are in the web panel.

No. GONG Guard is developed by GONG Global, an integrated facility services company in Ankara, Türkiye. It is not affiliated with Gong (gong.io), the sales conversation software, or with other companies and products named "Gong".

Which languages are supported?

The apps and the web panel are in Turkish only.

How much does it cost?
